CAPSTAR 57mg for Large Dogs are specially formulated tablets designed to combat flea infestations in adult dogs weighing over 11.1 kg. The active ingredient, nitenpyram, belongs to the neonicotinoid class and works by inhibiting nerve transmission in fleas, leading to rapid death of adult pests.

How It Works

Nitenpyram disrupts the flea’s nervous system after it takes a blood meal. This swift interruption stops fleas from feeding and ultimately kills them. Because the tablets are taken orally, they provide a convenient solution for pet owners who prefer not to use topical treatments.

Side Effects & Safety

  • Common: Mild itching in the first hour due to flea reaction.
  • Rare: Temporary hyperactivity, panting, vocalisation, excessive grooming or licking. Very rare neurological signs such as tremors, ataxia, or convulsions have been reported.

No known contraindications exist, and clinical studies confirm that CAPSTAR 57mg does not interact with other veterinary medications, including anthelmintics, vaccines, or antibiotics.

Tablets to be administered with or without food.

Dosage:
The minimum effect dose is 1mg/kg bodyweight with the following recommendations:
If a flea infestation is detected, dogs with a body weight between 11.1kg and 57kg should be given 1 tablet of CAPSTAR 57 mg. Dogs with a body weight over 57kg should receive 2 tablets. The frequency of treatment depends on the degree of infestation. In severe flea infestations, it may be necessary to treat the animals every day or every other day until the flea infestation is under control. Treatment can be resumed if fleas reappear. No more than one treatment per day should be given.

Instructions for correct administration:
To improve palatability, the tablets can be added to a small amount of food.
CAPSTAR has no long-term effect. To prevent re-infestation, appropriate treatment to control immature stages of the flea life cycle is recommended. The treating veterinarian should determine an appropriate treatment programme.

Special warnings
Special precautions for use in animals:
Not suitable for animals weighing less than 11kg.
Overdoses:
Nitenpyram is well tolerated by the target species. Overdoses up to 50mg/kg in cats and up to 70mg/kg in dogs were asymptomatic.
Side effects such as salivation, vomiting, soft faeces, cramps or reduced activity are only observed at higher doses. Their severity increases with increasing doses. The symptoms disappear quickly and recovery is complete within 24 hours of the overdose due to the rapid elimination of Nitenpyram. No clinically significant treatment-related adverse reactions have been observed with daily dosing for 6 months in cats and dogs.
